Salem, AR
Everette William “Bill” Stokes, 76, of Salem, Arkansas, passed away on March 11, 2026, in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Born on June 12, 1949, in Searcy, Arkansas, to Lewis Somers Stokes and Gloria Winifred (Howland) Stokes, Bill served his country with distinction for twenty years in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, embodying dedication, discipline, and deep patriotism.
On June 7, 1977, he married Emma Lorraine Scott in Basil, Switzerland. Together they built a loving home and raised a family that remained the center of his world. Bill found joy in life’s quieter rhythms. He was a devoted follower of Arkansas Razorbacks football and men’s basketball, as well as the Salem Greyhounds. He cherished peaceful mornings spent on the porch with a cup of coffee and, above all, treasured every moment with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. A faithful member of Salem Praise and Worship Fellowship, Bill lived with quiet strength and steadfast love for his family.
He is survived by his son, George Stokes (Christina Morrell) of Yellville, Arkansas; his daughter, Heather Hickey (Daniel) of Yellville, Arkansas; nine grandchildren, Greg Stokes, Lauren Kisman (Adam), Colleen Burkhart (Robert Smith), Alexis Burkhart, Hope Bennett, Jace Bennett, Rylee Hickey, Kelsey Hickey, and Ethan Hickey; and one great-grandson, Everett Burkhart. He is also survived by his sisters, Pat Garton of Starkville, Mississippi, and Lisa Kubicek (Ronald) of Cleburne, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lorraine Stokes; his parents, Lewis and Gloria Stokes; his brother, Lewis Somers Stokes, Jr.; and his brother-in-law, Marty Garton.
