Vick Funeral Home, Inc. - Mount Clemens on Mar. 11, 2026.Evelyn "Joan" Sarns (nee Rosso), age 95, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at her home in Harrison Township, Michigan.She was born in Mount Clemens, MI on November 9, 1930 and was a life-long resident of the area. Joan was a 1948 graduate of Mt. Clemens High School and a 1952 graduate of Adrian College. Following college, she taught High School English in the Warren Consolidated School District and 4th grade in the Mt. Clemens School District.On August 15, 1959 at First United Methodist Church in Mt. Clemens, she was united in marriage to William B. Sarns. For the following 44 years, Joan & Bill operated William B. Sarns Company in Mt. Clemens, where they manufactured iceboat hardware for the "DN" class iceboat, given its name after being developed in a competition held by the Detroit News in 1936. With Joan handling the books, shipping and deliveries, and Bill working in the shop, they worked as a team not only with the business, but in all aspects of their lives.After Bill passed away in 2012, Joan began volunteering at the Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Macomb Hospital in Mt. Clemens. She loved this volunteer position immensely and was disappointed when the Covid pandemic forced her back into retirement.Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin P. Rosso in 1989, and Mildred E. Rosso (nee Job) in 1992, her brothers James (the late Patricia) in 2012, and Richard (the late Patricia) in 2019, and in-laws Harold & Gwen Sarns of Harrison Twp., and Leona Sarns of Naples, Florida.She is survived by her sons, Matthew of Harrison Twp., and John (Darrick) of Berkley, MI. Also surviving are in-laws Richard & Norma Sarns of Ann Arbor, MI, Theodore Sarns of Naples, FL, and Marilyn (the late Jim) Williams of Creve Cour, Illinois. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, but was especially close with nieces Becky Line of Richmond, MI and Cindy Dinsmore of Armada, MI.Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2026 from 3:00p.m. until 8:00p.m. at the Harold W. Vick Funeral Home, 140 South Main, Mt. Clemens. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026 at 11:00 am (instate at 10:30 am) at the First United Methodist Church, 315 East 9 Mile Rd. in Hazel Park, Michigan with Pastor Sharon E. Appling officiating. Cremation will be private.
