EVELYN M. CHAPUT

Evelyn Mae Chaput, 91 long-time resident of Cooperstown, ND passed away peacefully surrounded by family at St. Catherine – South in Fargo on March 8, 2026. Evelyn was born November 23, 1934 in Winner, SD to Arthur and Mae (Long) Ekberg. Evelyn graduated from Osnabrock, ND high school and continued her education upon graduation at Mayville State receiving her teaching certificate and taught for 3 years in a country school. Evelyn also did in-home daycare and bookwork for the local elevator.

Evelyn married Delenore Chaput June 20, 1956 at St Alphonsus Church in Langdon, ND. They lived in Rock Lake, ND for 5 years before moving to Cooperstown, ND. Evelyn was actively involved in the Cooperstown community as a member of St. George Catholic Church, St Anne’s Circle, Meals on Wheels, volunteer hairdresser at the nursing home and helping with her daughter’s home daycare. Evelyn enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, golfing, bowling, camping, fishing, playing games especially trouble and pinochle, collecting owls and attending sporting events of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Evelyn enjoyed traveling and spent 25 years wintering in south Texas.

Evelyn moved to St Catherine – South in February of 2024 where she made many new friends and enjoyed activities, cards and many visits with family and friends.

Evelyn is survived by her husband Delenore, Fargo ND; Daughters Kim (Jerry) Hook, Edinburg, TX and Lisa (Pete) Nordtvedt, West Fargo, ND; Grandchildren Jennifer (Aaron) Sykes, Marc (Kylie) Haaland, Desiree (Josh) Fuxa, Paul (Kendra) Nordtvedt, Ashley (Gary) Mueller, Cory (Nicole) Chaput, CynDee (Richard) Smith, Nic Nordtvedt; step grandchildren Michelle Hook and Jason Hook; 15 great grandchildren (1 more on the way), 3 step great grandchildren,1 great-great grandchild, 5 step great-great grandchildren; sisters -in – law MaryLou (Gary) Schissler, Darlene (Bill) Brooks; brothers-in-law Glenn Hiltner, David (Joyce) Chaput and Joe (Tina) Chaput, several nieces and nephews.

Evelyn in proceeded in death by her parents, her daughter Susan, her son Kurtis, her daughter-in-law Tammy, her great granddaughter Alison, her sisters Luverne, Shirley and Delores; her brothers Eugene, Leonard and Arnold; Delenore’s parents Ed and Fern Chaput; Sisters-in-law Sister Donna Jean Chaput and EdiAnn Otto.

Upon Evelyn’s passing, cremation took place and a Memorial Service will be held June 11, 2026 at 11am with visitation 1 hour prior at St Geoge’s Catholic Church in Cooperstown, ND.
