Evelyn C. Cameron
February 11, 1948— February 24, 2026
Lancaster, PA
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Evelyn C. Cameron, a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this life on February 24, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on February 11, 1948, in Harlem, New York.
Evelyn will be remembered for her radiant spirit, kindness, and unwavering strength of character. As a devoted mother to her cherished children, Tyrsa and Jonathan Cameron and the late Danitra Betts, and a loving wife to her husband of 58 years, David Cameron, Evelyn was a matriarch who embraced all with open arms—a mother to many, she extended her heart beyond her immediate family, nurturing those in need.
Her love for the beach and the tranquility of water brought her great joy, with vacations meticulously planned to surround herself with the serenity of her happy place. Known for her outspoken nature, Evelyn was a person of unwavering convictions, never straying into the grey areas of life. Her stubbornness was always tempered with a warm, kind heart that endeared her to those who had the privilege of knowing her.
A celebration of Evelyn's life will take place with a public viewing on March 7, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Bright Side Baptist Church, 515 Hershey Ave. Lanc., followed by a Funeral Service at 12:00 PM. Interment to follow at Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery.
Evelyn's legacy of love, compassion, and resilience will forever remain in the hearts of her family and all who knew her. We invite those who were touched by her life to join us in celebrating her remarkable journey and the indelible impact she made in the world. She is survived by her husband David; their children Tyrsa and Jonathan; grandchildren, Janaye M. Betts of NY, Hollis King, Harlem King, Jonathan Cameron Jr. and Jaxon Cameron all of Lanc., and her sister, Yvette McClain (Ernest) of Lancaster. She was preceded in passing by her parents, Florence D. (Gordon) and Isaac Johnson, her daughter, Danitra Betts, and siblings, Kenneth Gordon, Yvonne Gordon, Kirk Gordon, and Keith Johnson. She also leaves behind a multitude of extended and adopted family.
Evelyn Cameron will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the many lives she positively influenced.
