Evelyn Buchanan, age 89, of Tate, Georgia, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026. Born on September 25, 1936, to Elbert Evans and Ethel Gee Evans, she lived a simple life filled with the things that brought her quiet joy.

She was known for her summertime canning, especially her famous pickles and sauerkraut. Her black walnut pound cakes and homemade biscuits were beloved by family and friends. In earlier years, she enjoyed fishing, dancing at the Sterling Cowboy—where friends affectionately called her “Basketball”—and riding through Cades Cove in the Smoky Mountains. She also found pleasure in long phone conversations and the everyday moments that made up a life lived with gentle, steady grace.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Brenda Sue Wofford; granddaughter, Brandy Wofford; great-granddaughter, Caitlyn Wingfield; brothers, Cotton Evans, Bill Evans, Bob Evans, and Bud Evans; sisters, Dorothy (J.M.) Heath and Janie Evans; son-in-law, Randy Faucett; and brother-in-law, Freddy Baker.

Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Debra Wofford Faucett and Sharon (Terry) Haynes; her son, Tim (Robin) Wofford; grandchildren, Kevin (Mattie) Wofford, Gabe Duckett, Kim Duckett, Jessica (Paula) Ter Beek, Dana (Kevin Duckett) Wofford, Derreck Wofford, and Chasady (Elexis) Dawson; eight great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; her brothers, Tom (Donna) Evans and Tadpole (Brenda) Evans; sisters, Lynn (David) Buchanan, Louise Evans (Larry Grant), Judy Baker, and Jean (Larry) White; and sisters-in-law Marcy Evans, Shirley Evans, and Velma Evans. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
