Evelyn B. Hagen, 94, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.
Born on March 29, 1931, at the family home in Danbury, Wisconsin, to Luella (Reese) and Clarence Guetschow, Evelyn graduated from Central High School in 1948. She met Robert Hagen at Bethel Lutheran Church in Superior, and they married on August 20, 1949. Their 53-year marriage was filled with deep love and the joy of raising a large family. Together they cherished every new grandchild and great-grandchild, often welcoming two to four little ones in the same year, and delighted in gathering everyone at their home or the family cabin in Danbury.
A longtime member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Evelyn was active in the choir and the women’s group for many years. She devoted herself to caring for her home and children, took great pride in her beautiful flower gardens, and found quiet pleasure in sewing, knitting, baking, and crocheting. She was especially proud to have crocheted a blanket for each of her grandchildren, completing her final one for her great-great-granddaughter, who shares her name, Evelyn. She was a devoted Milwaukee Brewers fan, loved playing cards, and was known among family as a master puzzle solver.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her mother- and father-in-law Marie and Albin Hagen, her husband Robert, and her sister-in-law Joyce Guetschow. She is survived by her children Julee (Gary) Hunter, Neil (Patricia) Hagen, Gerald (Mary) Hagen, Janice (Colin) Mattson, Jodi (Joseph) Montano, and Michael (Judy) Hagen; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one step great-great-grandchild; her brother Walter Guetschow; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
