Eva Mae “Lil Sis” Murphy Benjamin, 77, of West Point, Georgia, passed away on February 1, 2026, at her residence, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on May 22, 1948, in Troup County, Georgia, to the late George Willie Murphy, Sr. and Minnie Clyde Murphy, Eva accepted Christ at an early age and united with New Mount Pleasant Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. L. Z. Johnson. She later attended The Word Church under Reverend Michael Slaughter, Sr. A graduate of Harrison High School, she worked faithfully for T. J. Beall until her retirement. Known affectionately as “Lil Sis,” she was a loving, God-fearing woman who found deep joy in cooking, caring for her family, and nurturing her church home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sephus Benjamin; her parents; and her sisters, Gladys “Bit” Johnson and Georgia Ann Stafford.
Eva leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Cynthia “John” Gilder of West Point, Georgia; her son, Lamar “Anita” Murphy of West Point, Georgia; four grandchildren, Doresa Gilder, Junia, Ronicka, and Jamanski “Yolanda” Flournoy; eight great-grandchildren, three of whom she helped rear—Desaria, Ethan, and Jace; five sisters, Linda Wortham of Atlanta, Sarah Murphy, Gail Murphy, and Carolyn Murphy of West Point, and Sharon “Stan” Tucker of LaGrange, Georgia; two brothers, George “Gloria” Murphy, Jr. of Columbus, Georgia, and Vincent “Diane” Murphy of West Point, Georgia; a devoted bonus daughter, Valerie Heard; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
