St. Charles, MO
Eunice Louise Scanlon, 97, of St. Charles, Missouri, passed away on March 11, 2026.
She was the beloved wife of the late Charles Scanlon for 72 years. Together they shared a lifelong partnership that began when they met on a blind date and eloped in 1949. Eunice was the cherished mother of Tim (Barb) Scanlon, Jack (Barb) Scanlon, and Tom (Linda) Scanlon; a treasured grandmother to Stephen (Niki) Scanlon, Chrissy (Adam Anderson) Scanlon, Laurie (Rich) Long, Amy (Danny) Reynolds, Megan (Brandon) DeClue, Elizabeth (Ray) Tubaugh, and Michael (Gabby) Scanlon; and a loving great-grandmother to Evan, Blake, and Carter Scanlon, Addison and Emma Long, Gavin Reynolds, Haven Scanlon, and the late Rudy Scanlon Matute. She was also a dear sister-in-law to Audrey Holtgraewe, as well as a cherished aunt, cousin, and friend to many.
Born and raised in St. Charles, Eunice lived a life rooted in deep devotion to her Catholic faith, her family, and her community. Her faith guided her kindness and generosity toward others. She was an enthusiastic sports fan, especially of the St. Louis Cardinals, and rarely missed a game. Known as a true social butterfly, Eunice had a gift for bringing people together and filling every gathering with laughter and warmth. She was her three sons’ biggest supporter, faithfully attending their sporting events and celebrating every moment from the sidelines. For many years she worked at Target, where her dedication and friendly spirit earned her the roles of head cashier and service desk, and allowed her to form lasting connections with coworkers and customers alike. At home, she found great joy in tending her garden, lovingly caring for her flowers and creating a space of beauty and peace.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Frieda Holtgraewe (née Echelmeier), and her brothers, Earl Holtgraewe and Harlen (Judy) Holtgraewe.
