Eugene William Foster

Eugene William Foster, 71, of Naperville, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at UChicago Medicine Advent Hospital in Bolingbrook, Illinois. Born on January 4, 1955, at Elmhurst Hospital in Elmhurst, Illinois, Gene built a long career as a telecommunications engineer with AT&T and Lucent before returning to AT&T.

He found joy in the simple pleasures of life—listening to 1970s music, playing golf, following sports, and competing at ping pong. Above all, Gene cherished his role as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved coaching and watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports, and he remained a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. For more than 35 years, he faithfully served as a member of the Naperville Central High School Football Chain Gang.

Gene is survived by his wife, Susan (née Palmer) Foster; his daughter, Carrie S. (Paul) Greiner; his son, Brett W. (Diana) Foster; and his grandchildren, Cameron Greiner, Benny Greiner, and Skyler Foster. He also leaves behind his brother-in-law, Matthew (Maureen) Palmer, his niece Gennie Palmer, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Amelia (Molly) (née Kelsch) Foster.
