Eugene R. Murray, 95, of Mingoville, passed away peacefully at home on March 13, 2026. Born on October 1, 1930, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Eugene and Arta Elizabeth (Croyle) Murray. On July 17, 1954, he married Clara Loretta Murray, who survives him after more than 71 years of devoted marriage.
A graduate of Lewistown High School and Williamsport Tech, where he earned a degree in carpentry, Eugene served in the United States Air Force as A/1c with the 18th M.V.S. during the Korean War. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. He worked as a cabinet maker in Ohio, as a carpenter for Penn State University, built homes for New Deal Lifetime Homes, and served as superintendent for commercial projects with BC&M, RNR, and Haranin Construction until his retirement.
In addition to his wife Clara, he is survived by his children, David Eugene Murray of Mingoville and Annette Murray of Mill Hall, two grandsons, Jesse and Matthew McCune, and four great-grandchildren, Keira, Hailey, Murray, and Otto McCune. He was predeceased by a daughter, Brenda McCune, and a brother, James Franklin Murray.
A longtime member of Zion Community Church since the mid-1960s, Eugene served on the church board for more than 25 years and led most of its reconstruction projects. He was known for his generous spirit, freely sharing his carpentry skills to remodel and repair friends’ homes without charge. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking, landscaping, and following his beloved Pittsburgh Pirates.
