He was predeceased by: his wife Joanne Funk; his parents, C. Sterling Capes (Lucile M. Capes) and Lucile M. Capes; and his daughter Meredith Leanne Capes. He is survived by: his children, Gene Capes II (Carrie) of Maple Park, IL, Geoff Capes (Jonathan Saw) of New York, NY, Geordan Capes (Tim England) of Chicago, IL and Jenn Rosati (Chris) of Elburn, IL; and his grandchildren, Riley Capes (Meghan), Max Capes, Grace Rosati, Rocco Rosati and Sophia Rosati.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 21st 2026 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Conley Funeral Home (116 W Pierce St, Elburn, IL 60119). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 21st 2026 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
