July 20, 1937— March 9, 2026
Guilderland, NY
Eugene Gee, 88, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026, at Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York, surrounded by family. Born on July 20, 1937, in Great Meadows, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Frank Kwok-toh Gee and Nellie Sou-young Lee. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lucy, with whom he shared nearly 67 years of marriage; sons Lawrence, Allen, and Brian (Monica); daughter Cathy (Justin); grandchildren Matthew, Jackson, Rachel, and Willa; and extended family including King Gee, Kenny Gee, and May Gee; Edward Moy (Audrey), John Moy (Cho Young), and Lei-Jayne Moy; along with Jennifer (Drew), Melissa, and John Edward Moy.
Eugene grew up in the Bronx, where he enjoyed playing stickball. He graduated from the Bronx High School of Science in 1955, serving as Senior Class President, and there he met his future wife, Lucy. He went on to earn both a Bachelor of Civil Engineering in 1959 and a Master of Civil Engineering in 1962 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he was a brother and president of Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity. After working briefly as a structural engineer in Manhattan, he returned to upstate New York and spent 38 years with the Department of Transportation in Albany, retiring in 1999. He and Lucy raised their family first on Weis Road and then on Van Wie Terrace in Guilderland.
A devoted family man, Eugene cherished traveling with Lucy to places such as Bermuda, Hawaii, Switzerland, Australia, Alaska, French Polynesia, and the Canadian Rockies. He took special joy in family trips to national parks and local attractions including Lake George, the Catskill Game Farm, and the Surf Motel on Cape Cod. He regularly drove to New York City to visit his parents, often returning with favorite Chinese foods, and loved cooking large meals for family and friends, hosting barbecues and cookouts. As a father, he actively supported his children’s interests, serving on the board of the Albany YMCA and participating in the Y Guides and Trailblazer programs. He faithfully attended his children’s and grandchildren’s concerts, games, recitals, and meets, finding his greatest pleasure in their growth and accomplishments.
Eugene was a longtime member of the McKownville United Methodist Church for nearly 60 years, where he served on multiple boards and prepared meals for church dinners. His generosity and enthusiasm for bringing people together were evident in his volunteer work at Albany Medical Center, his support for family gatherings, and his regular lunches with Department of Transportation retirees.
