Eugene "Hammer" Baker

1949 — 2026

London, KY

Eugene “Hammer” Baker, of London, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026. Born on April 14, 1949, to the late Roscoe and Marie Baker, he was a devoted husband to Evelyn Baker. Together they built a life centered on love, family, and hard work.

He was the proud father of three sons: Clifford Baker and his wife Vicky, Johnny Baker and his wife Donna, and Phillip Baker and his wife Jamie. Known to many as Papaw, Eugene cherished the time spent with his grandchildren, Timothy, Joshua, LaTasha, Dylan, Hannah, and Zachary, and took great pride in his twenty-five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Johnny Baker and wife Terry of Manchester, Kentucky, Rick Baker and wife Angie of Manchester, Bonnie Newsome of Manchester, and Linda Riley and husband Richard of Lexington, Kentucky.

Eugene spent many years as a coal miner, a vocation that reflected his strength, dedication, and strong work ethic. Those who knew him will remember a man who provided for his family with quiet pride, carried himself with steady strength, and showed kindness to all.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Sue Davidson, and his granddaughter, Kimberly Faye Clark. Above all, Eugene was a loving husband, devoted father, proud papaw, and loyal friend. His legacy of love, strength, and family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
