Ethel Bernice Jenkins Sabino was born on April 4, 1939, in Saint Stephen’s, South Carolina, to James and Sarah Jenkins. She graduated from Russellville High School in 1959, then moved to Boston, Massachusetts, where she married in 1966. In 1976, she and her husband relocated to Gautier, Mississippi. Ethel worked at J.C. Penney’s until her retirement. She took great pleasure in time spent with her family, baking, and shopping, and was especially known for her delicious lemon pound cake. She passed away on March 4, 2026, in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.
A woman of deep faith, Ethel was a loyal member of Saint Peter’s Catholic Church. She is remembered for her warm smile and ready laughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Sarah Jenkins; sisters, Mary and Annie Mae; brothers, Ben, George, and Norman; and brothers-in-law, Earl Sabino, Charles Sabino, and Ronald Sabino.
Ethel is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, John; her loving son, Kyle; siblings, Elouise and Reynolds; grandchildren, Shavon Sabino and Carmelo Walley; and a large extended family that includes in-laws, Carolyn Sabino, Shelia Glaude, Cynthia (William) Oliver, Karen Thurmon, Cheryl Wright, Harold (Vickie) Sabino, Barbara Sabino, Evelyn Gethers, Earlene Jenkins, Sara Lee Spann, Henry Gadsden, and Lloyd (Dyann) Sabino; her godson, Lloyd Sabino Jr.; along with many nieces, nephews, family friends, and former coworkers who loved her.
