Detroit, MI

Esther G. Marek, born on March 2, 1933, in Detroit, Michigan, to John and Julia Nagy, passed away on March 11, 2026, at the age of 93. A graduate of Michigan State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, she enjoyed a distinguished career at Ford Motor Company, where she served as Secretary of the Dealer Policy Board. Colleagues remembered her for her intelligence, organizational skill, and the warmth and dedication she brought to her work.

Her Christian faith guided every aspect of Esther’s life, shaping her relationships and daily actions with grace and purpose. She was devoted above all to her family, finding her greatest joy in the bonds she shared with them. Esther was the beloved wife of the late Thomas Marek and a loving mother to her daughter, Susan Slusarczyk. She was the cherished grandmother of Jonathan Slusarczyk and his wife Sarah, and Mekenna Romano and her husband Donald. She is also survived by her brother, John Nagy, and nephew, David Nagy. She was preceded in death by her sister, Ethel Johnston.

Esther’s home was filled with the simple pleasures that reflected her vibrant spirit. She tended a beautiful garden, prepared memorable meals—especially her chicken paprikash, pork chops, and stuffed peppers—and found delight in reading, solving crosswords, and playing Scrabble. She was an avid viewer of “Jeopardy!” and “Wheel of Fortune,” often matching the contestants with her quick wit. Her beloved Mini Dachshunds received the same gentle affection she extended to everyone in her life.

Esther will be remembered as an intelligent, passionate, and deeply loving woman whose presence was a gift to all who knew her. Her legacy of faith, family, and quiet strength will continue to live on in the hearts of those she cherished.
