Ervin Helmuth

1929 — 2026

Hartville, OH

Ervin Helmuth, age 96, of Hartville, Ohio, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born on December 22, 1929, in Hartville to the late Andrew and Nettie (Schlabach) Helmuth, he grew up in the community where he later met his wife, Mary (Shrock), at a local church hymn sing. Together they raised four children and spent many years in Union City, Pennsylvania, as dairy farmers. A man of deep faith, Ervin lived out his beliefs through his actions, words, and caring heart.

He taught his children the importance of hard work and a genuine walk with God, values they saw modeled daily in his life as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Those same lessons were passed on to his grandchildren, who learned from his steady example. Alongside his strong work ethic, Ervin possessed a lively sense of humor and was known for his quick wit and ability to share a joke at just the right moment.

While in Pennsylvania, Ervin and Mary were active members of Valley View Mennonite Church. In 2003 they sold their farm and returned to Hartville to semi-retire, where they became part of Hartville Mennonite Church, now known as Evermore Community Church.

Ervin is survived by his children Norma J. (Reuben) Stoltzfus, Steve Helmuth (Joy Roth), and son-in-law Steve Wolf, along with ten grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary (Shrock) Helmuth, daughter Rosemary L. (Steve) Wolf, son Thomas E. Helmuth, and his siblings Barbara (Walter) Byler, Alvin Helmuth, Emma Helmuth, Samuel Helmuth, Andrew Helmuth Jr., Wilma (Wallace) Troyer, and Orva Helmuth. Today he rejoices in Heaven, reunited with his beloved wife Mary, son Tommy, and daughter Rosemary.
