Oklahoma City, OK
Ervin Eugene Schatt, 83, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026, surrounded by family. Born on March 19, 1942, in Sandusky County, Ohio, to Ervin Walter Schatt and Gertrude Irene Harmon, he was raised by his mother and stepfather, Kenneth Glassford, in Woodville, Ohio. He attended Woodville High School until 1959 before enlisting in the Army.
Ervin’s military career took him across the world, beginning with basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, followed by service in Germany, where he earned his GED. He later served at bases in the United States, Japan, Korea, and the Philippines, including a seven-month tour in Vietnam. From 1973 to 1976, he was stationed at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma, where he met his wife, Donna Brown, through his lifelong friend John Brown. The couple married in 1975. Ervin completed his final tour in Germany from 1977 to 1979, specializing in neuropsychology as a psychometrist and working as a clerk typist. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1979 as a Staff Sergeant, earning the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Achievement in Vietnam, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. After leaving the Army, he earned his commercial pilot’s license, a degree in data processing from Cameron University, and built a career in the copier industry as a service technician and part owner of a copier service company in Oklahoma City, as well as working for the State of Oklahoma.
Ervin had a remarkable talent for repairing electronic devices and possessed an extensive collection of specialty tools. Known for his quick humor, stubborn streak, and ability to befriend anyone, he never met a stranger. He took great joy in his large movie collection and projector screen television, often watching films for hours, and filled his home with a distinctive and memorable sense of style.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Donna Converse of Harrah, Oklahoma; daughters Angela (Fred) Goetz of Oklahoma City and Denise Ross of Harrah, Oklahoma; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren. Ervin will be remembered for his ready wit and his willingness to help anyone in need.
