Erroll Houston Newton
February 24, 1961— March 7, 2026
Ashville, AL
Erroll Houston Newton was born on February 24, 1961, in Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Lloyd G. Newton and Johnnie Mae Newton. Baptized at an early age at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, he carried the faith and values instilled in him throughout his life. He often spoke with pride of the lessons his father taught him and made it his mission to live by those same principles, being present for his family and working hard to give his children a better life.
Erroll was a gifted athlete in his youth, excelling in both basketball and football. His talent and dedication to the game earned him the respect of his teammates and the Ashville community. Football remained one of his greatest passions, and his accomplishments on the field were recognized in 2013 when he was inducted into the Ashville Sports Hall of Fame.
Above all, Erroll cherished his role as a father and “Papa.” In retirement, he found deep fulfillment in helping to raise his grandchildren, ensuring they were safely on and off the school bus, supporting them at sporting events, and simply being a steady, loving presence in their daily lives. He is remembered for the quiet pride he took in his family, the example he set, and the love he gave so freely to those closest to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd G. Newton and Johnnie Mae Newton, and his brothers, Lloyd Newton Jr. and Paul Newton Sr. Erroll is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Glorine Newton of Ashville, Alabama; his sons, Xavier (Breanna) Newton of Pinson, Alabama, and Alex Newton of Birmingham, Alabama; and his daughters, Alexis Newton and Sara Patton of Ashville, Alabama. He also leaves behind five beloved grandchildren: Xavien, Madeleyn, Ailani, Myles, and Jahmari, as well as his sister-in-law, Sherry Newton, and many other extended family members and friends who will continue to hold his memory dear.
