Ernest Thornton Weimer, 85, of rural Galion, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Marion General Hospital. Born on May 28, 1940, in Cumberland, Maryland, to the late Patsy and Velva (Collins) Weimer, Ernest lived a life marked by quiet dedication and a gentle spirit.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Vivian R. (Blankenship) Weimer; stepchildren Chris (Lisa) Carnes of Mansfield, Teresa (Scott) Clayton of Bucyrus, David (Opal) Carnes of Plymouth, and Timothy Carnes of Bucyrus; along with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and adopted daughter April Weimer. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.
Ernest worked at the Ford Motor Company in Maryland before relocating to Ohio, where he later worked at Carter Machine in Galion. A U.S. Army veteran, he found joy in woodworking, gardening, and spending time on his computer. Those who knew him cherished his good sense of humor and his simple pleasure in sharing a good meal with friends. A longtime member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Galion, Ernest lived his faith with sincerity and quiet strength.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Shirley Lucanegro and Geraldine Roberts; brothers Bernard, Wilbur, Richard, and Frank Weimer; stepson Jerry “Jay” Carnes; and adopted son Thomas Weimer.
