Ernest P. Delp Sr

Ernest P. Delp, Sr., 90, of Treibley Road in New Columbia, passed away at his home on March 13, 2026. Born in Sunbury on August 4, 1935, he was the son of the late Harry and Bessie (Conrad) Delp. He married Sara Machamer on November 6, 1954, and the couple shared 71 devoted years together.

A 1953 graduate of Sunbury High School, Ernest worked at American Home Foods for 42 years before retiring in 1998. He was a longtime member of Milton Lutheran Church and belonged to Chef’s Silver and Gold and the New Columbia Civic Organization. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was also a skilled carpenter and accomplished handyman who designed and built his own home from mail-ordered plans.

He is survived by his wife, Sara; his son, Kenneth E. Delp of York; two sisters, Phyllis Sweppenheiser of Herndon and Rosalie Weaver of Sunbury; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Ernest P. Delp, Jr., his brother George Delp, and six sisters: Mildred Delp, Emma Berger, Ruth Arbogast, Grace Delp, Virginia Herrold, and Romayne Bohner.
