Ernest Haynes ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Fisher Funeral Home - Denison on Mar. 17, 2026.Ernest (Ernie) Haynes went to be with his Lord and Saviour on January 27, 2026. He was born on June 25, 1934, in Bradley, Arkansas, to James and Vanna Bell Haynes. He was the baby of nine siblings who all preceded him in death.Ernie was also preceded in death by his wife, Carmen Jean, and his son, Phillip Lynn. He is survived by his daughter Cheryl Ann Haynes of Dodd City, TX, and his son, Michael Douglas Haynes of Plano, TX, his two little dogs, Kookie and Fergie, whom he spoiled rotten, two "adopted" children, Susan and Mikel, and numerous nieces and nephews.Ernie loved to play basketball; he played for the Bradley High School Bears back in the day. Even later in life, he wanted to watch basketball on TV rather than baseball or football. He always rooted for the Razorbacks! Most of his life, Ernie made his living in Arkansas selling and servicing copy machines (nothing like the machines we have today!). After he moved to Shreveport, LA, he sold wire rope and loved the helicopter rides out over the gulf to see what his customers were doing with the rope. But, his favorite job, later in life, was working at "The" Wal-Mart. He was a Greeter at The Colony Wal-Mart and loved talking to the people. He had stories that could have filled a book.Ernie loved life; he loved to have fun; he loved to laugh and make others laugh and he loved to be ornery! His favorite board game was WA-HOO, and he could still play it well at 91! He loved his two little dogs, who let him live with them. It was important for him to keep in touch with his friends and most evenings he would be on the phone for hours catching up with them. He loved old country music and the old bluegrass gospel.Ernie was a member of Grace Community Church in The Colony, TX. He lived in The Colony from 1998 until Sept 2024, when he moved into The Terrace Nursing Facility in Denison, TX, after many months of hospital stays and rehabs. Here, he made a name for himself with his loving heart, humor and contagious laugh. He was not only a blessing to the residents, but also to the staff.Dad was proud of the fresh onions, tomatoes and cucumbers from his little raised garden boxes that he maintained. He was also a hit with the hummingbirds and neighborhood cats; somehow, he always had food for them. While at The Terrace, he was recognized as RESIDENT OF THE MONTH and as MOST IMPROVED IN REHAB.Dad would sit outside in the sun to get his vitamin D and listen to the gossip. He once said that his "attendance at the smoke breaks was better than the smoker's attendance, and he didn't even smoke!" On the weekends, he would look so forward to the visits with his two little dogs. Everybody loved his two little dogs!Dad touched each life he came in contact within a unique way that only he could do. He will be missed by many friends and family members. But he has finished his race and is now safely home, where he will hear from Jesus, "well done good and faithful servant."To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
