Eric Wade Young

January 6, 1972 March 9, 2026

Oberlin, LA

Eric Wade Young, 54, of Oberlin, passed away in March 2026. A man of deep faith and abiding musical talent, Eric touched many lives through his lifelong dedication to music and his gentle, nurturing spirit.

A graduate of Oberlin High School, class of 1990, Eric was active in band where he played the trumpet. His love of music began in childhood when his parents gifted him an organ for the home. From an early age he played the organ at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oakdale, performing for weddings, funerals, and community events. He continued this service as organist at the church while working in multiple roles for the Catholic Diocese of Lake Charles. Through his work he formed many cherished friendships, including with fellow musicians Brad Soileau and Dr. Tommy Davis. Evenings at home were often filled with the sound of Eric playing the organ for family and friends.

Eric shared his mother’s green thumb and found joy in tending his garden, spending countless hours caring for his plants and watching them grow. He was known for his kind heart, his spiritual devotion, and his generous spirit.

He is survived by his mother, Thelma Marie Berlinger of Oberlin; brothers Bryan and Jennifer Young, and Tim and Tonya Young, both of Oberlin; sisters Bernadine and Lynn Dean Vizena, and Angie Bertrand, both of Oberlin; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will forever hold his memory in their hearts. Eric was preceded in death by his father, Sidney Wade Young.
