Eric J. Soper, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and formerly of Simsbury and Hamden, Connecticut, passed away on March 4, 2026. Born on December 24, 1962, in New Haven, Connecticut, to Richard E. and Nancy R. Nieman Soper, Eric lived a life marked by creativity, dedication, and a genuine warmth that touched everyone he met.

He attended Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, Berklee College of Music in Boston, and graduated from the New England Culinary Institute in Montpelier, Vermont. After completing his culinary training, Eric served as Executive Chef at St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield, Connecticut. He later found a new calling with the United States Postal Service, beginning in Simsbury, Connecticut, before transferring to the Murrells Inlet Post Office, where he formed many close friendships with colleagues and built lasting relationships with the customers he served with kindness and care.

Eric’s passions included playing guitar, listening to music, cooking, and golfing. He is survived by his sister, Kristin Rowen of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, his niece Carly Rowen of Wilmington, North Carolina, his nephew Connor Rowen of West Hartford, Connecticut, and many cousins and friends in Connecticut and New Hampshire.

The family extends deep gratitude to the outstanding team at Tidelands Health Oncology for their compassionate care. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
