Mt. Vernon, OH
Eric Lee Brown, age 55, of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 9, 2026, at his home.
Born on May 30, 1970, in Elyria, Ohio, to Richard R. and Sue (Curlis) Brown, Eric grew up in Upper Sandusky and graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in 1988. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University in 1991, a master’s degree from Ashland University in 1993, and a doctorate from Ohio University in 2004. A dedicated educator for more than 33 years, he spent the last 20 years in the Mt. Vernon public school system, where he served as Director of Elementary Curriculum and as principal of East Elementary, Twin Oak Elementary, and Columbia Elementary.
Eric is survived by his mother, Sue Brown of Upper Sandusky, his sons Wade Brown of Columbus and Cole Brown of Mt. Vernon, his brother Tim (Andrea) Brown of Westlake, and his former wife Tonia Pever of Mt. Vernon. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Brown.
Eric held a deep passion for United States history, particularly the Civil War, and devoted countless hours to tracing his family’s genealogy back to the 1600s. An avid animal lover, he cherished the many cats and dogs that shared his life, including his beloved cat Maui and beagle Shiloh. Above all, he treasured time with his sons—whether traveling to amusement parks in search of thrilling roller coasters, visiting Gettysburg to explore its museum and battlegrounds, playing tennis together, or watching Cleveland Browns and Ohio State games as a family.
