Eric Blake Smith

Eric Blake Smith, 56, of Owensboro, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at his home. Born on January 11, 1970, in Owensboro to Linda Smith Hatcher and the late Elton Smith, Eric was a man of quiet intellect and varied interests. He found joy in reading scientific literature, playing video games, competing in card games—especially euchre—and listening to hard rock music. His sharp mind once earned him a spot on the television game show “Jeopardy!,” a point of pride that reflected his lifelong curiosity and knowledge.

Eric cherished time with his family, attending his son Elton’s athletic events whenever possible. He also shared a special companionship with his cat, Jelly, who brought comfort to his daily life.

He is survived by his mother, Linda Smith Hatcher; his son, Elton Smith of Owensboro; his half-sisters, Kristie Lamb (Karl) of Pflugerville, Texas, Pat Halk, and Debbye (Paul) Elledge; and his half-brother, Elton “Bennie” Smith, all of Jonesboro, Arkansas. A private family service has been planned.
