Elyse Jill Gist Morris, a longtime resident of McKinney, Texas, passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on March 10, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. Born on July 15, 1944, in Centralia, Illinois, to Jake Manford Gist and Elsie Agatha (Norman) Gist, Jill grew up in Seminole, Texas. She earned her undergraduate degree in nursing from West Texas State University in Canyon and later returned to school to receive her master’s in nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington, becoming a Nurse Practitioner.
After practicing nursing for many years across several specialties, Jill settled in McKinney, where she provided family medicine for two decades. She was known for her professional care, warmth, compassion, and deep dedication to her patients, many of whom became cherished friends. Jill loved her work and often shared stories about the patients and families she cared for. She found great joy in spending time with family, watching her grandchildren grow, tending to her backyard oasis, traveling, reading with her book club, and gathering with her dear friends known as “the Sippers.”
Jill shared a close bond with her sister, Renna Dacus, who preceded her in death two years earlier. She is survived by her sons, Erick McGregor and his wife Donna Anderson of Hemet, California, and Matthew McGregor and his wife Christy McGregor of Coppell, Texas; her daughter, Megan Renna Haensgen and her husband Gregg Haensgen of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin; her grandchildren, Katrina McGregor, Jennifer McGregor, Tristan McGregor, Camden McGregor, Akira McGregor, Gracie Renna Haensgen, and Cooper Haensgen; and her great-grandchildren, Elena May Davis and Mason Davis. Her kind spirit, sharp wit, and unwavering support left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
