Elsie Mae Fugate

Elsie Mae Fugate, age 98, of the Lucky Community, passed away on March 15, 2026 at her residence. Born on July 1, 1927 to Grover Alton Womack and Verdie Mae Kelley Womack, she spent her working years as a receptionist for Western Union and remained a longtime member of Trinity Baptist Church.

Elsie found deep satisfaction in the quiet arts of crocheting and quilting, creating many beautiful pieces for family and friends. She loved the outdoors and took great pride in tending her flowers and yard. Her pecan pies and snickerdoodle cookies were cherished by everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her sister, Remonia Smith, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Louis Bryan Fugate, her sisters Mabel Gibson and Dima Craddock, and her brothers Jesse, Clarence, Wilburn, Billy, and Ralph Womack.
