She graduated from Lynwood High School and dedicated 25 years as a Clerk Typist for the Long Beach Unified School District, primarily at Stephen’s Junior High School. Known for her meticulous work and gentle, private nature, Elsie found deep fulfillment in family traditions and the simple pleasures of home. She was renowned for her roast beef dinners with roasted potatoes and gravy, as well as her pecan and chocolate pies and deviled eggs. A devoted sweet tooth, she especially enjoyed chocolates, donuts, ice cream, and cheese.

An avid reader of mysteries, Elsie also took pleasure in watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Perry Mason, Hogan’s Heroes, The Andy Griffith Show, and Barney Miller. In earlier years she enjoyed visiting craft boutiques, and throughout her life she maintained a joyful passion for Snoopy, surrounding herself with his plush toys, bedding, blankets, and trinkets.

Elsie was a loving mother to her daughters Kathy Farrell and Karen Smith, and a cherished mother-in-law to James Smith. She is survived by her five grandchildren, Jennifer Strong (Jerome), JoAnna Muratore (Nick), Jason Smith (Melinda), Jonathan Smith (Diana), and Jeffrey Smith (Paige), and ten great-grandchildren: Connor Fulton, Journey Muratore, Kailey Strong, RJ Strong, Sam Smith, Andy Smith, Brooklyn Smith, Mackenzie Smith, Adaline Smith, and Laramie Smith. Her kindness extended to close friends such as Chuck Moutard and Joy Hicks, a cherished family friend for over ninety years.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Pruitt, and her parents, Anna K. Egan and John J. Egan. Elsie’s life was one of quiet dignity, devoted love, and steadfast kindness. She leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her gentle spirit and the warmth she brought into their lives.
