Ella Mae Lyles

Ella Mae Lyles, 93, of Benton, Kentucky, passed away on March 13, 2026, at The Meadows Senior Community Health Center in Nashville, Tennessee, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on May 4, 1932, in the North Calloway County community of Brinkley, Ella Mae was the daughter of the late Coy Alonzo Newsome and Jessie Mae Scott Newsome. A lifelong member of the Oak Level Church of Christ, she lived a quiet life rooted in faith, family, and community.

She is survived by her son, Jerry Lyles and his wife Shirlene of Lewisburg, Tennessee; her daughters, Sharon Filbeck, Sheila Hendrickson and her husband David, and Donna Jones and her husband Wayne, all of Benton; grandchildren Michael Houser, Angie Hawkins and her husband Roy, Melissa Higgins and her husband Steve, Heather Hendrickson, Matthew Hendrickson and his wife Paige, Ashley Hack and her husband Adam, and Bionca Waller and her husband Bret; great-grandchildren Dillon Houser, Chelsea Bailey and her husband Lance, Nicolas Hawkins, Brianna Higgins, Madisyn Higgins, Luna Hendrickson, Emma Hack, Ellie Hack, Bella Hack, and Evyn Waller; great-great-granddaughter Paislee Bailey; and honorary granddaughter Jackelyn Zaragoza. She is also remembered by her beloved cat, Patches.

Ella Mae was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Leroy Lyles; her parents; a brother, Vonnie Lee Newsome; an infant sister, Betty Jo Newsome; and her cherished uncle, Troy Newsome. She will be remembered for her generous spirit and her steadfast support of children’s causes, particularly through New Pathways for Children and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
