King of Prussia, PA
Elizabeth P. Lawless passed away on March 11, 2026. Born on February 17, 1933 in Ballinrobe, Ireland to Michael and Mary (Cooney) Walsh, she led a full and remarkable life. She attended the University of Madrid and the University of Genoa before devoting many years to advocating for minorities and women in the Montgomery County court system. During that time she was certified by the Pennsylvania State Police to assist in investigations concerning sex crimes and child abuse. Elizabeth had a rare gift for making people feel comfortable and welcome, able to speak with anyone, anywhere, and at any time.
In retirement she found joy as a nanny and through volunteer work at Einstein Hospital’s neonatal care unit and the Valley Forge Memorial Chapel bookstore. A classically trained pianist, she held a deep love for classical and jazz music. She also cherished tending to plants, antique shopping, reading, and conversing in several languages. While working in Madrid, Spain, she met her husband, John T. Lawless, and they married in 1960.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her brother Thomas Kelly, her sister Violet Walsh Mellett, and her former spouse John T. Lawless. She is survived by her children Deirdre DellaPolla, John Lawless, and Michael Lawless and their partners; grandchildren Elizabeth Anne Lawless, Mia Butler (Travis), Michael DellaPolla, and Olivia Lawless; great-granddaughter Maddie Butler; sisters Yvonne Campbell and Valda Walsh; and many cherished friends.
