Her life was marked by resilience, dedication, and compassion, leaving a lasting legacy in her community, her work, and above all, within her family.
Libby’s early education began in Tazewell, Virginia, and continued at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, Maryland. With characteristic determination, she earned her G.E.D. as an adult and later studied at Montgomery College, reflecting a lifelong love of reading and personal growth. Her professional path began as a Central Files Clerk with the State of Maryland Circuit Court for Montgomery County, where she advanced to Chief Courtroom Clerk. Family was the center of Libby’s world. She cherished time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, creating memories through gatherings, games, and her beloved chicken and dumplings. She enjoyed reading, hiking, playing cards and puzzles, and trips to the beach. A lifelong sports enthusiast, she played competitive softball for many years on a team coached by her husband, Edward, and later coached girls’ softball as well as a men’s team. She remained an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles, Washington Redskins, and University of Maryland athletics, and she proudly supported her own family members at their games and activities for decades.
Libby was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Chapman O’Conor, and her daughter, Lisa Ann Wyatt. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Robert O’Conor and his wife Rebecca, Edward O’Conor and his wife Tina, Laura Chipley, Kathy Hux, Tish O’Conor and her husband James, Stacy Johnson, and Mary Sweetland and her husband Randy; her sisters Wanda Ward and Joyce McVey; twelve grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; and all those whose lives she touched with her strength, warmth, and enduring love.
