Elizabeth May "Liz" Melton

Elizabeth “Liz” May Melton, 90, of Upperco, Maryland, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at North Pines Assisted Living in Manchester, Maryland. Born on October 7, 1935, in Owings Mills, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Charles Sprinkle and Bernice Thompson Still Sprinkle. She was the beloved wife of 52 years to the late Vernon Hoyle Melton, who passed away in 2007.

Liz worked for many years as a secretary for J. Schoenman, a men’s clothing store in Owings Mills. She was a longtime member of both Dover United Methodist Church and Boring United Methodist Church. She took great pleasure in baking and cooking, especially for her family, and her kitchen was often filled with the warmth and aromas of meals prepared with love.

She is survived by her son, James “Jim” Michael Melton and his wife Leigh; grandchildren Rachael Checke, Christopher Melton, Vanessa Grimm and her husband Ray, and Matthew Melton; step-grandchildren Ray and Ashley Richards; great-grandchildren Tyler, Alexis, Emilee, and Carter; and step-great-grandchildren Raylen, Peyton, Haley, and Lucas. She is also survived by her siblings Robert Sprinkle and Shirley Pollack and her husband John, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Liz was predeceased by her son Vernon Lee Melton, step-grandson T.J. Richards, great-grandson Benjamin, and her brothers Herbert, Walter, and Melvin Sprinkle.
