Elizabeth M. Michalczyk

January 20, 1955 March 11, 2026

Townsend, MA

Elizabeth M. “Betsy” Michalczyk, 71, of Townsend, passed away on March 11, 2026 at Health Alliance – Leominster Hospital. A resident of Townsend for nearly fifty years, she was the beloved wife of the late Robert R. Michalczyk, who died on October 22, 2021. Their love story began in their teenage years when they lived just up the street from one another in Lowell. They married and shared 45 wonderful years together, building a life centered on family, love, and laughter. They especially treasured traveling with their children and later their grandchildren, creating many cherished memories.

Born in Lowell on January 20, 1955, Betsy was the daughter of John and Theresa (O’Keefe) Koukias. She graduated from Lowell High School in 1973. For many years she operated a child day care center from her home, caring for countless children with deep affection. She loved them as her own, took great pride in watching them grow, and remained close to many of them into adulthood, regarding them as additional grandchildren.

Betsy found joy in reading, tending her garden, spending time with her three dogs, Bear, Winston, and Parker, and watching crime shows. She especially cherished summers at the family beach house in Salisbury, where she created countless memories with loved ones. She was a longtime member of St. John’s Church in Townsend.

She is survived by her sons, Robert R. Michalczyk of Ashburnham and Timothy J. Michalczyk of Clayton, North Carolina; her daughter, Jen L. Michalczyk of Gardner; her brother, Michael Koukias of Brighton; her sister, Diane Bomba of Carolina Beach, North Carolina; and six grandchildren, Alexis Riggins, Kayley Michalczyk, Autumn Michalczyk, Jamison Michalczyk, Caiden Michalczyk, and Tanner Michalczyk.
