Elizabeth "Betty" H. Keiser
Passed March 9, 2026
Philadelphia, PA
Elizabeth “Betty” H. Keiser (née Copelin), a longtime Philadelphia arts advocate and cherished matriarch, passed away on March 9, 2026, just shy of her 101st birthday. Born in Philadelphia as the youngest of three sisters, Betty graduated from Girls High School and then Mastbaum Vocational School, where she learned to read technical blueprints. This skill led her to the Frankford Arsenal, where she met and married her beloved husband, the late Willard J. Keiser. The couple settled in the Logan section of the city, where their children, Bruce and Lisa, were born.
In Logan, Betty formed enduring friendships with neighbors who were members of the Philadelphia Orchestra, which sparked her lifelong passion for the arts. In 1958, the family moved to Bala Cynwyd. There, Betty studied art appreciation at the Barnes Foundation, an experience she treasured. She went on to work with the Valley Forge Music Fair, the YMYWHA Arts Council, Playhouse in the Park, the Philadelphia College of the Performing Arts, and the American Music Theatre Festival. Throughout the Philadelphia cultural community, Betty was respected for her talent in audience development, her dedication to helping young musicians find performance opportunities, and her remarkable ability to build support for artistic endeavors of all kinds.
Beyond her professional life, Betty found joy in classical music, opera, gourmet cooking, gardening, and world travel. Above all, she remained devoted to her husband, her children, her extended family, and her many friends. She is survived by her son Bruce Keiser (Karen Cronin) and her daughter Lisa Keiser.
