Elizabeth Elaine Cooper

1940 — 2026

Wilson, NC

Elizabeth Elaine Cooper passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2026. Born on December 12, 1940, to Clarence and Lillian Black of Sanford, North Carolina, she lived a life rooted in faith and family. She loved the Lord Jesus Christ and is now at peace, reunited with her mother, whom she often called for, along with her father and her daughter Terry.

Elizabeth had a deep passion for children and devoted more than thirty years to working in various daycare centers in Wilson. She took great joy in watching the children she once cared for grow up and start families of their own. Even after moving into long-term care at Wilson Rehab and Nursing Center, she found delight in the perfect view of the Growing Tree daycare playground from her room, a small blessing she cherished.

Her daughter Sharon felt honored to visit her often and help oversee her care. The staff at the center treated her with exceptional kindness, and Elizabeth’s face would light up when her favorite caregivers appeared. Even in her later years, she continued to show her nurturing spirit, often trying to share her own food to ensure her daughter had eaten. On her final day, she was still able to clearly express her love. She leaves behind cherished memories that her son and daughter will continue to honor and share.

Elizabeth Elaine Cooper was preceded in death by her husband, William “Billy” Harvey Cooper; daughter, Terry Lynn Cooper Farmer; parents, Clarence and Lillian Black; sisters, Pat Webster, Dot Richardson, and Brenda Gunter; and brother, Billy Black.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Cooper Church of Wilson; son, William Jeffrey Cooper of Raleigh; grandson, Mark Selby Farmer, Jr. (Brooke) of Wilson; and granddaughter, Faith Hunter Florentina Church of Rosemary Beach, Florida.
