Born October 1, 1937, in Bangor, Maine; Betty dedicated her life to the service of others, leaving an indelible mark on the lives she touched throughout her remarkable journey.Betty pursued her passion for nursing with unwavering commitment, earning a Master's degree in Nursing from Boston University. Her career was distinguished by her lengthy work at the N. E. Deaconess Hospital and as a mentor and educator at Boston University where she inspired countless nursing students to follow in her footsteps. Later in her career she worked in leadership roles at Carleton Willard Village in Bedford, MA and Mediplex in Beverly, MA where she made many special friends. Betty's dedication to her profession was matched only by her fervent desire to improve the lives of others.She was very active in state and local politics and was also devoted to senior care initiatives, including her work with Meals on Wheels. Betty loved to travel and shared many stories about her adventures with friends and family. She was a member of the First Church in Wenham and enjoyed singing hymns with the Madens and others. She was an animal lover and had many beloved pets during her lifetime.Beyond her professional accomplishments, Betty was a cherished sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She is survived by her loving family, a brother Seth Dunbar of Taftville, CT; nephew Chris Moody and his wife Karen Enloe of NY; niece Jennifer Schneider of NC; cousin, Margot Gibbs and her husband John Tupper of Newbury, MA; as well as many more cousins, nieces and nephews and their families. Along with Betty's family, many devoted friends will forever hold her memory close in their hearts.Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Mahlon T. and Eunice O'Clair Dunbar, and her sisters, Ruth Pistel and Sara Smith.Her legacy of compassion and dedication to the well-being of others will live on through the many lives she touched.A celebration of life will be held at The First Church in Wenham at 1 Arbor Street, Wenham, on Saturday, March 28th, at 2pm. Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance of a remarkable woman. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The First Church in Wenham or MSPCA at Northeast Animal Shelter.
