January 2, 1948— March 6, 2026
Annapolis, MD
Elice Shelton, age 78, of Annapolis, Maryland, passed away on March 6, 2026, surrounded by her two sons after a brief illness. Born on January 2, 1948, she lived a life defined by deep devotion to her family, generosity toward others, and a steadfast Christian faith. A graduate of the University of Maryland where she studied Home Economics, Elice married Rodney Shelton on June 7, 1968. Their marriage lasted until Rodney’s death in 2001. She is survived by her sons, Christopher Andrew Shelton and David Michael Shelton, who carry forward the values and love she so carefully instilled in them.
Elice possessed a generous spirit and took genuine delight in helping others succeed. She invested her time, resources, and encouragement in people and organizations dedicated to personal growth. Her lifelong passion for horses led her to become a licensed Technical Delegate for the U.S. Equestrian Association. She generously shared her knowledge and experience, most recently mentoring a young rider by accompanying her to Ride for Life in Upper Marlboro, coaching her in dressage, and carefully scoring her tests from a makeshift judge’s stand. That young woman went on to win her division with the highest test score across all levels, thanks in large part to Elice’s guidance.
Beginning in the 1970s, Elice developed a deep affection for poodles. She became an accomplished trainer, exhibitor, and instructor, earning numerous American Kennel Club titles with her beloved dogs Caruso and Derek. A certified instructor with the National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors, she taught competition obedience, private lessons, puppy socialization, and the training of service and therapy dogs. She served as Corresponding Secretary for the Greenspring Poodle Club and wrote articles to help families raise happy, healthy dogs.
At the center of Elice’s life was her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. She remained committed to studying and discussing Scripture until the end of her days, offering thoughtful insights and sincere devotion to those who joined her. She worshiped for many years at Severna Park Evangelical Presbyterian Church before becoming a founding member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Crofton, where she cherished the fellowship of her church family. She will be remembered for her kindness, encouragement of others, and the many lives she touched through her generosity and friendship. Her family and friends find comfort in the lasting legacy of love and faith she leaves behind.
