Fairfield, CA
Elias Jojola Jr., lovingly known as Joe or simply Jr., passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on June 6, 1937, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, he was the cherished son of Elias Jojola Sr. and Concepción Villalba Jojola. Raised in the rich culture of the Tiwa tribe, he moved to California at age five and remained a proud descendant of the Piro/Manso/Tiwa Indian Tribe. His warmth, humor, and playful spirit drew people to him from an early age and remained a defining part of his character throughout his life.
Elias served honorably in the United States Air Force before enjoying a long second career at the University of California, Berkeley, where he dedicated three decades of service. He shared countless stories from both of his careers with his grandchildren, always delivered with laughter and joy. A gifted dancer, he moved with rhythm and delight, especially alongside his beloved wife of 64 years, Estela. Together they traveled the world, creating a lifetime of cherished memories and adventures while building a home filled with music, love, and laughter.
Above all, Elias cherished his family. He held a special affection for all children and extended that warmth to his own children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended relatives, making everyone feel welcomed and loved. He enjoyed sports, particularly baseball, football, and boxing, and gave back to his community by volunteering with Little League Baseball. An artist at heart, he created works that reflected his depth and spirit. A devoted Catholic, he served for two decades with the Knights of Columbus, supporting his parish and community with quiet commitment.
Elias was preceded in death by his parents, his son Carlos Jojola, his brother Ralph Arambula, and his sisters Josephine Marquez, Paulita Russel, Marylou Cordova, and Frances Banducci. He is survived by his wife Estela Jojola, son Felipe Jojola, daughters Bernice Jojola-Webb and Elaine Jojola, brother Johnny Jojola, twelve grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews. His legacy of love, laughter, and joyful connection remains with all who were fortunate to know him.
