She was born in Pyatigorsk, Russia on February 25, 1942 to the late Baruch and Polina Shamis. In August 1942 the Nazi's invaded Pyatigorsk and her mother and aunt, with baby Eleanora in arms were placed in the last transport out of the city. Her father volunteered to fight the Germans in the Russian Army and was reported missing in action in 1943. After the war her mother and aunt returned to Pyatigorsk. Ella and her husband Yakov met in St. Petersburg at Univerisity, where Ella studied to become a physician and they emigrated to the United States in 1991. Ella and Yakov flourished in the US and are very grateful to be given the opportunity to move here.She is survived by her son, Boris (Olga) Valdman; daughter, Tanya (Alex) Shtein; grandchildren, Zachary (Yasmin) Valdman, Paula (Alex) Kuchkarov, Daniel Shtein and Leah Valdman; great granddaughter, Mila Sofia Kuchkarov; and many cousins and friends.Graveside services will be held at 1:30 PM on Sunday, March 15, 2026 at New Agudas Achim Cemetery, 2565 Performance Way.Shiva will be observed following the service at Boris and Olga Valdman's residence.In lieu of flowers, contributions in Eleanora's memory may be made to Congregation Agudas Achim www.agudasachim.orgZoom Link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83238635345?pwd=cbBuKJ051uT5DRD5hrYGBe6wtvgJR1.1To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
