Born September 12, 1931 in Philadelphia, PA to Harry Lee Sandy and Sarah Ann Sandy (née Rhody)she is predeceased by her parents and her two brothers, Harry Sandy Jr. and Lester Sandy and their wives, and her first husband, Edwin M. Kleshick. She is survived by her husband of nearly sixty years, Fred R. Scheurer. Survivors also include her children L. Susan Scheurer, Edward M. Scheurer (Sonny) and his wife Patricia, and Lori M. Osenbaugh. Her grandchildren are, Gabriel Frankel, Sarah Frankel, Ryan Scheurer, Kelsey Shelton (Reed), and Lauren Heeter (Chris), and her first great grandchild, Theodore Heeter who was born just a few weeks before Sandy passed away. Survivors also include her nieces and nephews: Glenn Sandy and his children,Kathleen Sandy, Lester Sandy Jr. (Julie) and their children, Robert Sandy (Deborah) and their children, Cheryl Hornby (Kenny) and their children, Clifford Sandy (Brenda) their children, and Sloane Sandy (Vierka) and their children.Sandy was a career woman in addition to being a mother to her children. She worked as many as three jobs at a time in her early years. Starting in the secretarial pool when she graduated high school at the age of 16, she became an Executive Assistant at various companies and to a District Judge in Bucks County, PA. She also owned and operated three businesses in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. When she wasn't working, she attended classes or volunteered for various causes. Sandy was both a past Worthy Matron and a Royal Matron in the Order of the Eastern Star Doylestown PA Chapter 327 and a member from 1970 to 2003. She was a past member and matron of the Order of the Amaranth Court 104. Sandy was a court appointed advocate for children in Tampa, Florida, and volunteered at the Bedford Welcome Center for 20years. She was a member of the Bedford Garden Club.One of her great passions in life was animals. From accepting strays in every neighborhood she ever lived in, to showing and breeding Siamese and Abyssinian cats, to volunteering at her local humane society, animals were an important part of her life.A celebration of life will be held April 25, at 11:00 AM at Bedford Presbyterian Church, Bedford, Virginia.In lieu of flowers, please donate to the either the Bedford County Humane Society or the Bedford Humane Society.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
