Eleanor M. Fait Conroy, 96, passed away peacefully on the morning of March 13, 2026. Born on November 15, 1929, in Youngstown, she was the daughter of Joseph and Katherine Zvirloh Fait. After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1947, Eleanor worked at Marshall Drug Co. and General Fireproofing, where she riveted aircraft wings. She later retired from Cohen Sparkle Market on South Avenue after 22 years in the meat department.
A lifelong member of St. Charles Church and its Over 55 Club, Eleanor made history as the first female football official in OHSAA history and was honored by the Curbstone Coaches for her pioneering achievement. She married Joseph Conroy on September 4, 1954; he preceded her in death on July 12, 2011.
She is survived by her loving children, Joseph (Mimi) Conroy, Erin (John) Misalko, and James Conroy, and her grandchildren, Emily Conroy, Allison (Ernst) van den Akker, and Joseph Conroy III. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Justina Sova, and her brother, Joseph Fait. Her family will always cherish her strength, independence, and quiet devotion to those she loved.
