Clinton, SC

Eleanor “Lena” Blackwell Lawson, age 88, widow of Homer Lawson, passed away on March 10, 2026 at Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Community.

Born in Clinton, South Carolina on September 10, 1937, Lena was the daughter of the late Norman Blackwell and Ethel Patterson Blackwell. A 1955 graduate of Clinton High School, where she served as a majorette, she remained a lifelong, faithful member of Davidson Street Baptist Church. After raising her children, she returned to school and graduated from Piedmont Technical College with a perfect 4.0 GPA. She later retired from Whitten Center and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Lena is survived by her three daughters, Linda Gault (Carter), Susan Anderson, and Cathy Miller (Lee); nine grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren, with one expected in June.

A private family service was held with Rev. Marie Miller officiating and Mr. Eddie Marshall serving as vocalist. The family extends deep gratitude for the compassionate care provided to Lena by the staff of Martha Franks Unit #2 and Lutheran Hospice.
