Commodore, PA

Eleanor Joyce S. Glenn, 94, of Commodore, passed away peacefully on her family farm where she was born, on March 11, 2026.

Born on November 17, 1931, to William Alden Stahl and Jenetta Beatrice Gromley, Joyce grew up on their dairy farm homestead in Commodore, Indiana County, Pennsylvania. She worked alongside her father on the farm until she was 21. After graduating from Commodore High School in 1949, she attended Indiana Business School, completing a secretarial course with shorthand in 1950. Her early jobs included working as a waitress at Stapleton’s Restaurant and later as a secretary at National Mine Service Company in Indiana, Pennsylvania, until 1953.

In September 1952, Joyce met Dwight Glenn at a fraternity party at Indiana Teacher’s College. They married on January 24, 1953, and began a life of adventure together. While Dwight served in the Army, Joyce followed him to Germany with two young children, where their third child was born. The family later lived in California, Texas, and Maryland, where their fourth child arrived. After Dwight founded Mid-Atlantic Radiation Physics, Inc., Joyce managed the company’s finances for thirty years. Together they traveled extensively, visiting China, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and Hawaii.

Joyce found joy in cooking, reading, gardening, sewing, crocheting, and traveling. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Dwight Wayne Glenn, on October 18, 2018, and by her son, Daniel William Glenn, on September 18, 2025. She is survived by her sister, Miriam Stahl Deitman of Ohio; her children, Diana Marie Kubu of Apollo Beach, Florida, Karen Joyce Able of Stevensville, Maryland, and Kristine Susan Reilly of Commodore, Pennsylvania; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her final years, her youngest daughter brought her back to the family farm, where she spent her remaining days. Joyce often spoke of her wonderful life with Dwight and looked forward to being reunited with him. A private family memorial will be held at the farm in April, and her ashes will be intermingled with his.
