Eleanor Elizabeth Smith

Eleanor Elizabeth Smith, age 93, of Livonia, Michigan, passed away on March 13, 2026.

Born in Albany, Louisiana, on June 8, 1932, to Lawrence and Elizabeth Shaffer, Eleanor graduated from Hazel Park High School in 1950. She married Alan Smith on May 23, 1953, and the couple shared 58 years of marriage.

Eleanor found deep fulfillment as a wife, mother, and homemaker. She had a lifelong passion for singing and dancing, serving as a longtime member of the Livonia Civic Chorus. An avid bowler and swimmer, she was also a talented cook and baker, known for her award-winning banana nut bread, and a skilled seamstress. She cherished family camping trips, international travels with Alan in retirement, and lively evenings playing board games such as Scrabble, Ticket to Ride, and Yahtzee. Her beloved pet dogs brought her constant joy.

Eleanor is survived by her children, Diane Gonzalez and Matthew Smith (Denise); grandchildren, Rebecca Bogin (Daniel), Justin Boomgaard, Tracie Gonzalez, and Justin Gonzalez; sister-in-law Rita Shaffer; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Alan, siblings Elmer Shaffer and Ruth Krajewski (Bob), son Timothy Smith, and son-in-law Angel Gonzalez.
