Elaine Vivian Cahoone Johnson Hubbard
Middletown, CT
Elaine Vivian Cahoone Johnson Hubbard, born November 2, 1951, in Farmington, Maine, passed away on March 1, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. The daughter of Ernestine (Corson) Cahoone and William Edward Cahoone, she was the youngest of five children. She spent her early years in Phillips, Maine, before moving to Middletown, Connecticut, where she grew up and raised her own children. In 2001 she returned to Maine, the place she always held closest to her heart, and lived there for nineteen years before moving to North Carolina to be with her daughter and son-in-law.
Elaine was a woman of adventure, laughter, and deep love for her family. Known as the life of every party, she brought energy, stories, and contagious joy to every gathering. She had a gift for words and often marked family celebrations with original poems that became treasured memories. She loved to travel and embraced new experiences with enthusiasm and curiosity. Christmas was especially dear to her; she delighted in decorating her home and hosting family gatherings that drew loved ones together year after year.
She is survived by her three children, Dawn Elizabeth Whelan and her husband Francis Whelan of Rocky Hill, Connecticut; Jennifer Lynn Johnson and her husband Bryann Blair of Jacksonville, North Carolina; and Michael Stewart Hubbard and his wife Kathleen O’Shea of Sarasota, Florida. She was a proud grandmother to Victoria Post and her husband John of Middletown, Connecticut; Kathryn Gerte and her husband Thomas of Middletown, Connecticut; Raymond Satagaj-Reinhold and his wife Malvina of Gothenburg, Sweden; and Emily Whelan and her partner Daniel Ferrante of Rocky Hill, Connecticut. Her greatest joy came from her six great-grandchildren, Theodore, Logan, Eden, Bjorn, Freja, and Alva. She is also survived by her sister Jerreanne Keating of Farmington, Maine; her brother Myron “Sonny” Witherell and his wife Gale of Waterville, Maine; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Elaine was predeceased by her parents, Ernestine and William Cahoone; her brother Richard Cahoone; her sister Katherine “Skip” Bubier; and her loving partner David Presby. She will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, her adventurous heart, her curious mind, and the way she made every occasion brighter simply by being present. Her love continues through the generations she leaves behind.
