Elaine Greer Tanner was born on March 11, 1929, in Victorville, California, and passed away on March 7, 2026, in South Ogden, Utah, at the age of 96. She was the daughter of Nello W. Greer and Gladys Irwin Greer and grew up in St. Johns, Arizona. Elaine graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in teaching and spent many years teaching school in California. She touched the lives of countless students through her dedication, kindness, and genuine love of learning.
In San Bernardino, California, Elaine met Alexis Malan Tanner, and they were married on June 13, 1952, in the Mesa, Arizona Temple. A lifelong and devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she lived her faith with quiet strength, carrying its values into every part of her family life and work. She and Alexis were blessed with seven children who brought her immeasurable joy.
Elaine is preceded in death by her husband, Alexis, and by two of her children, Bronwyn and Michael Frederick. She is survived by her brother, Harvey Stansell Greer, and her children: Alexis and Lorraine Tanner; Nello and Debra Tanner; Patrick and Jolene Tanner; Gwendolyn and Philip Cannell; John and Tracy Tanner; and Barney and Jennifer Tanner. She also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved her deeply.
Elaine found great pleasure in swimming, reading, crocheting, arts and crafts, card games, music, dance, attending the theater, and gardening. Her warmth, generosity, and vibrant spirit touched everyone who knew her.
