Eileen M. Goldsberry

Eileen M. Goldsberry, 87, of Circleville, passed away at her home after a two-month illness, surrounded by her daughter and son-in-law. A strong and resilient woman, she faced numerous health challenges in her final two years with quiet determination. Born on June 30, 1938, in Ipswich, England, she was the daughter of James Frederick and Edith (Mattin) Orvis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Walter Goldsberry; her second husband, Bill Mayhew; and her siblings, Stanley Orvis, Florence Love, Edward “Ted” Orvis, and Dorothy “Dot” Frost. Eileen is survived by her children, Deborah (Matt) Thomas and Thomas “Cash” (Karen) Goldsberry; her grandchildren, Dustin (Chelsey) Thomas, Jonathan (Heather) Thomas, Megan (Eli Moore) Thomas, and Levi Goldsberry; and her great-grandchildren, Ahmiah, Caiden, Cole, and Liam Thomas. Her grandchildren were the true light of her life, and she cherished them deeply.

In 1970, Eileen became a naturalized American citizen while proudly maintaining her British heritage. As a young woman in England, she worked at the Coop butchers shop, as a movie usherette, and at JC Penney, where she was a dedicated and loyal employee. She is also survived by her special childhood friends, Mary Baltzer of Ipswich, England, and June Underhill of Missouri, as well as many nieces and nephews in both England and the United States.

Eileen found joy in time spent with family, especially her grandchildren, as well as playing euchre and bingo, watching game shows, visiting the casino and thrift stores, enjoying a traditional English Sunday dinner, and savoring a good hot cup of tea. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
