April 21, 1968— March 6, 2026
San Antonio, TX
Efren Lira Martinez, aged 57, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on March 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on April 21, 1968, in Nuevo Mercurio, Zacatecas, Mexico, Efren carried a deep love for simple joys and family life from a young age. He cherished playing soccer, camping and swimming at the river, preparing carne asada for everyone, and spending time with those he loved most.
A devoted husband and father, Efren was especially fond of his youngest son, whom he affectionately called “Ton” (Matteo). He often said a Sunday without menudo was not a Sunday, insisted on having beans on his plate, and never went without avocado at his meals. These small daily pleasures brought him genuine happiness. He is survived by his loving wife and steadfast partner, Mirna Garcia; their three children, Thelma Lira, Mirna Lira, and Matteo Lira “Ton”; his mother, Maria Esther Martinez; his siblings Martha Lira, Rosario Lira, Maria Esther Lira, Elia Lira, Silvia Lira, and Miguel Lira; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who held him dear.
Known fondly as “El Guapo” by his sisters, Efren leaves behind a legacy of laughter, warm embraces, adventures, and cherished memories. He is now reunited in heaven with his father, Jose Ascencion Lira Castañeda, and his older brother, Luis Javier Lira, who preceded him in death.
Rest in peace, dear husband, father, son, brother, and warrior at heart. Your smile, your clever shortcuts, your carne asada, your love for the river, and your devotion to family will live forever in our hearts and memories. You will be carried with us always.
