July 25, 1946— March 12, 2026
North Huntingdon, PA
Edwin R. “Ed” Tatters, 79, of North Huntingdon, passed away on March 12, 2026, at home surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 25, 1946, in Wilkins Township, he was the son of the late William and Margaret (Bytheway) Tatters. A longtime member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Ed spent 44 years as a stationary engineer, first with J & L Steel, later known as LTV Steel, before continuing his career at Forbes Regional Hospital and Point Park University until his retirement in 2011.
Ed cherished traveling with his wife, Janet. Together they served as AARP tour guides and enjoyed memorable trips to Aruba, Hawaii, and Alaska. He was an avid golfer who especially loved playing with his son, Ed, and once achieved a hole-in-one at Manor Valley Golf Course. Whether cutting grass, tending to chores, or simply being outdoors, Ed found joy in the simple pleasures of the yard. He also enjoyed bowling, but nothing compared to the love he held for his family. His wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the center of his world. He took great delight in attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, where he was affectionately known for cheering on “Pap’s Girls” or being called “Watermelon Belly.”
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janet (Matthews) Tatters; daughter, Sharon (Everett “Rick”) Ricker of Belle Vernon; son, Edwin “Ed” (Dawn) Tatters II of North Huntingdon; grandchildren, Stacy (James “Jim”) Johnson, Brandon (Danielle) Ricker, Daniel Ricker, Natalie Ricker, Kaley Ricker, Douglas Tatters, Dylan Tatters, and Kenzie Tatters; great-grandchildren, Brooklynn, Blake, Ella, and Lucy; and sisters, Ida (the late Jack) Marks and Mabel (the late Bill) Little.
