Edwin Lee Murray

Edwin Lee Murray

March 5, 1953 March 8, 2026

Oklahoma City, OK

Edwin "Lee" Murray was born on March 5, 1953, in San Jose, California. He passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, after a very brief and unexpected battle with a stroke and cancer. Lee's love and dedication to his family and friends, and his commitment to service, was at the core of who he was. He will continue to live on in our hearts.

He began an honorable military career after high school with three years’ service in the Army. During this time, he was stationed in Missouri, Texas, Vietnam (for which he volunteered during the war), and Colorado.

Following this, he went on to serve 17 and a half years in the United States Navy. During his Naval career, he was stationed at Iwakuni, Okinawa, Mississippi, Cuba, California, and Washington. He completed his USN service with a Navy Aviation assignment aboard the USS John F. Kennedy CV67 during Operation Desert Storm and ultimately retired in 1991. He was forever proud of his service to his country.

Lee Murray always loved cooking, experimenting with the art of smoking meats, and he most enjoyed having a good time spent with family and friends. He will be remembered by all who loved him for his unwavering faith, uncompromised dedication, loving spirit, and true compassion for those he held close.

Lee is survived by his wife, Anita Murray, his stepsons, Kris Hollenback, and Steven Hollenback and wife Julia, his step-granddaughters Charlotte and Ramona, as well as his cousins, the foster family that cared for him, and his special neighbors. They brought joy and light to his life, as he did to theirs.

He is preceded in death by his father, Clifford Murray, and his mother, Margaret Mary Coleman.

Graveside services for Lee will be 1:00 pm, Thursday March 26, 2026 at Ft. Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, OK.
